Senior Anchor Andrew Barnes, who co-hosts Newsday on e.tv and eNCA, is to leave the channel at the end of April.
Andrew has resigned to pursue business interests abroad.
He has worked at eNCA for 15 years. “It’s been an incredible journey here at ‘e’,” says Andrew. “ I have been able to realise my childhood dream of anchoring TV news and reporting from places like Washington DC, New York and London. Those opportunities followed several rewarding years in news management.”
Mapi Mhlanga, News Director for eNCA says Andrew will be missed: “I would like to thank him for 15 years of dedication and professionalism. Andrew will be missed and it is difficult to imagine the Cape Town office without him. I have no doubt that his new venture will be successful.”
Andrew has decided to pursue business interests in south-east Asia. “After 23 years in broadcasting, I leave South Africa with my partner to start a new life in my favourite corner of the world, south-east Asia. I’ll be putting the years of experience I’ve gained in training and development to launch my own business in Cambodia. While Brandon and I shall miss this country, we’re excited that the time has come to spread our wings.”
On his departure from the channel, Andrew says: “I leave the ‘e’ family with a profound sense of satisfaction with my contribution, most especially of all the new talent I have helped train and develop. The future of broadcasting in South Africa is in their hands.”
Michelle Craig, who co-hosts News Day from 1-4pm on Channel 403, will continue to host the show alone for now.
eNCA would like to wish Andrew everything of the best in his new venture. We thank him for his loyalty and hard work over the years.
