Cape Town, 16 July 2015: This Mandela Day, Saturday 18 July 2015, Heart FM DJ’s will give 67 minutes of their time to help the people of the Nomzamo Township near Strand, by painting their homes with fire retardant paint. Every year countless homes in informal settlements are destroyed by raging fires, often leading to the loss of life or severe injury
In honour of the late Nelson Mandela and to keep his legacy alive, Heart FM will join the Khusela Ikhaya project in partnership with Transception – a project implementation company aimed at spearheading social projects into the marketplace.
The specially formulated paint known as Khusela – which means in Xhosa – prevents the rapid spread of fire especially in more populated areas such as townships. The paint not only slows down the spread of fires, but also allows more time for emergency services to respond and for neighbouring occupants of these dwellings more time to vacate their homes and escape injury.
Tranception hopes to paint a minimum of 67 dwellings in Nomzamo on the day.
Aden Thomas, Julian Naidoo, Suga, Meghan Hector and Jo-Dee Butler will give 67 minutes of their time to this worthy cause.
