Cape Town, 17 November 2015: On Monday 16 November 2015 South African history was made when the first soapie to be set and filmed in the Western Cape, Suidooster, went to air on Afrikaans channel kykNET and kykNET & kie (DStv channel 145). The production has already garnered the support of the entertainment industry including Heart FM, Cape Town’s number one radio station.

Heart FM has joined forces with kykNET to launch Suidooster as the radio station supports the development of talent and the knock-on effect the production will create, which is in line with the company’s values. It is anticipated that the new series will contribute to creating more employment opportunities in the television and entertainment industry in South Africa.

The production, which features some of South Africa’s top acting talent in the form of Denise Newman, Johan Botha, Cedwyn Joel, Abduraghmaan Adams and Marcel van Heerden to name a few, has already created 65 new sustainable jobs which includes 15 first time actors.

On launch day Monday 16 November, Heart FM broadcasted the 9 to 12 show with Tracey Lange from the Suidooster film studio in Montague Gardens which created awareness around the production. All of the actors were present on the day and shared with Tracey the journey from the initial idea to produce a local soapie to the excitement of going on air for the very first time.

Cape Town, 10 November 2015: A recent survey has revealed that Cape Town has the most congested traffic in the country and that commuters could spend up to 40 days a year in traffic.

Cape Town, Thursday 29 October 2015: This holiday season, Heart FM, Game and the non-profit organisation Newkidz on The Block will be writing a story of joy for underprivileged children of the Western Cape. In the lead up to Christmas the organisations will be collecting toys as part of the Game Toy Story campaign for children in need.

This year marks the 4th year Heart FM is involved with the campaign of which the aim is to collect approximately 6 000 toys and distribute them to children at hospitals, orphanages, safe houses and other child protection institutions. The majority of these facilities are government funded and struggle to make ends meet. The toys distributed are often a first for many of these children and play a crucial part in their development.

The recipients of the toys are vetted by Newkidz on the Block which helps in establishing loving homes for orphans, vulnerable and destitute children. Founder of Newkidz Hilda De Beer says there is nothing better than seeing what a difference a toy makes to a child. “To see the eyes of a child light up when they receive a new toy is a special moment. To see the whole face of a child, who doesn’t own anything new light up when they receive a new toy is priceless.”

You can make a difference by purchasing or placing a new toy in the Toy Story drop boxes in all *participating Game stores from 12 October 2015. Game Marketing and Customer Director Mark Tuner says the company is delighted to be part of the campaign for the 4th consecutive year. “The Toy Story campaign reminds us that we all have an all-important duty to play in ensuring the well-being of disadvantaged children.”

For the 2rd year running Heart FM DJ Tyrone Paulsen will be the Brand Ambassador for the campaign.
Cape Town, 5th May 2015: Nick Feinberg’s outspoken nature may have landed him in some hot water a couple of times over the last 17 years, but his personality and wit has won over the hearts of listeners making him one of the most loved sport presenters in Cape Town.

Nick’s almost two-decade long run spanned across every day time show on the station. For the past 17 years he’s been an abrasive, cynical and highly controversial figure on Cape Town radio. In the process, Nick has become one of the most recognised names in the industry – garnering numerous awards, including three nods as the Western Cape Electronic Sports Journalist of the Year. He also came close to setting a record for the most appearances as the defendant in front of radio’s ombudsman, the BCCSA, although he has notably seen all of these complaints dismissed without censure.

On Friday 8 May 2015, Feinberg will be presenting his last show as the sports anchor on #Drive326, the afternoon drive show hosted by Suga. He’ll be leaving on a high, having been an integral part of the on-air team that has enjoyed the largest afternoon audience in the metropole for the past two years, and he’s happy that he’ll be moving on to a positive new role for the station.

Asked about that future, Nick’s typically flamboyant response was that, “I’m to be reborn! It’s an almost-middle aged metamorphosis; bursting out of a 90 kilo pupa as the all-new uncynical, grumpless, all-conquering, positive and productive Creative Director of Heart FM’s internal creative advertising unit.” While he focuses on this new role, he will still have a presence on air hosting a weekly football slot every Wednesday afternoon at 15h30.

Over the next few weeks, Heart FM will be trying out some new talent in this space but is not in a hurry to fill the big shoes of the witty Chelsea-mad football fan.

Shireen is a rare find in the field of sales and marketing: a strategic thinker with a 360° understanding of client, agency and radio strategy.

With over 10 years project management experience in sales, marketing, sponsorships and events across all South African commercial radio stations; she has an in-depth grasp of the national media landscape. Importantly in this changing environment, her work in agency and direct sales depended on forging integrated campaigns with digital, creative, activation, and PR agencies.

Shireen also offers an empathetic understanding of the exigencies that business faces in a difficult economy. Her work has produced measurable growth for clients with genuinely small budgets, and also stand-out Return On Investment for multinationals; judiciously planning the use of multi-million Rand budgets to best effect.

This holistic understanding of the terrain saw her take up a role as an adjudicator for the MTN Radio Awards in both 2014 and 2015. Shireen’s personal passion for producing meaningful content, and her belief in the need for digital convergence make her the perfect person to lead our team as we take your brand to the next level.
