Radio Kaboesna is a radio station that broadcasts on the 98.0 FM frequency to reach listeners in town and surrounding farms. The station reaches listeners in LSM groups one to six, in all age groups. It broadcasts 18 hours a day in Afrikaans, English  and Xhosa. They specifically target the youth and young working class.

The broadcast areas are Calvinia, Niewoudtville, Vanrynsdorp, Citrusdal and Williston.

During the transition period of 1997 and 1998, a group of community leaders and other individuals rallied around. They come together to pursue the purpose of setting up a local community radio station through the leadership of the late Mr Saal who was an inspiration to many activists in the Upington community.

We were funded by Open Society Foundation, Northern Cape Department of Arts and Culture, Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency (SIDA) and The South African Government’s Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP). Preparation for the hearing to acquire the broadcasting license was conducted by Nkopane Maphiri who was then with the National Community Radio Forum (NCRF).

The name “Riverside” was made up after the public was invited to submit a name proposals for the radio station, and “Riverside” was adopted. The logo was also made with the similar process. Teemaneng Community Radio in Kimberley hosted the first training for the station.

The radio station went on air for the first time on 11 October 1999 after using May to October as trial period.

The first person to go on-air for the first was Douglas Mbambo and there were lots of complaints from the public about the way he spoke. SENTECH informed us about the interference with the OFM broadcast after some neighbours had complained to SENTECH.

This was the first chapter Radio Riverside book. It has nearly been a decade now and Radio Riverside continues writing the book chapter by chapter every year.

Broadcast from Upington, Radio Riverside targets Xhosa-, Setswana-, English- and Afrikaans-speaking listeners aged 18 to 35, with programming made up of 60% talk and 40% music.

Modiri FM is a community Radio Station that aimed in developing the community of Ratlou and Tswaing Local Municipalities in Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality through advocacy initiation. It is formed to close gap of broadcasting between rural and urban areas. Its aimed building economic empowerment at rural through broadcasting and advertising. Modiri FM

Vaaltar fm is located in the Northwest province in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality, under the local Municipality of Greater Taung. It is situated 71km from Vryburg and 148km to Kimberly on N18 at 93 Lesedi Building.

Taung is an area that is mainly survived by farming (irrigation schemes) and just over 380 mm rainfall annually mainly comes in summer with likely frosts in winter. Vegetation Kalahari Thornveld and the soil mainly Kalahari sand.

The area is best known for its limestone carves which are of great Archaeological interest owing to the discovery of pre history skeletal remains. Harts River while the world famous site where Taung skull was discovered in a limestone quarry in 1924, South African Ape Men, the Tracopithecinae. The discovery vindicated Charles Darwin’s prediction in 1871 that Africa would prove to be the cradle of mankind. Today the skull is preserved in the Anatomy Department of the University of the Witwatersrand in Gauteng province.
Radio as a concept. The concept in 1995 with two radio committees respectively Vaalharts Community Radio (under the leadership of Moatlhodi Sebalo, composition: Palm Matlhola, Doctor Jonas, Dineo Nteta, Thulani LuthoyiGilbert Molebiemang) and Taung Community Radio( as represented by Sam Lekgatshane and Tsholofelo “Ice-T” Moepeng) resulted in a merge of the two and agreed to a common name VAALTAR FM. The said committee recruited other members of common interest, applied and received tribal resolutions by the blessings of Chief Mothibi, Chief Mankuroane and Chief Motlhabane on the 17 January 1996, this was after the various consultation processes in areas like Tribal Authorithies, churches, schools, CBOs, NGOs, Sectoral departments and individuals in a form of signature campaign.
Legal Status:
The entity has been registered as a Non Profit Making body reg no: 046-027-NPO and has been licensed to broadcast by Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) in 2000 and was subsequently granted another four years license as effect October 2008.

Control:
The structure of the radio station as per control purpose has the community(AGM) that elect the Board of Directors (BoD) to oversee the vision and mission of the entity, compliance to the licence conditions and advocacy over funding and good representation.

The BoD with powers vested in them appoint the Station Manager to execute administrative policies and the strategic planning of the entity, organize, evaluate, monitor and be directive on day-by-day running of the station thereby also being on the outlook to forge sound relation in lobbying around funding, creating partnerships with different stakeholders and encouraging community participation in producing balanced programming.

Radio Power Source for the first time on December 1, 2002 by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) is licensed as a community radio station in area 79 in Mpumalanga to broadcast.

There are officially on Saturday December 7, 2002 at 16:00 101 President Avenue in Witbank start broadcasting. Due to limited space in President 101, the broadcasting studio on March 1, 2003 moved to Adromeda 56 Reynorif, hence the konfensionele broadcasting studios on 1 November 2006 at Green Point Centre, Klipfontein, Witbank in use.

The inadequate self–constructed transmitter / tower located on the farm Kromdraai outside Witbank is approved by ICASA on the night of August 5, 2003 to replace the existing Sentech tower / transmitter located between Witbank and Middelburg. The previous mashoogte from 1562 meters above sea level increased to 1,761 meters above sea level from the nature of things our own signal distribution significantly improved and increased.

After a laborious effort of more than 4 years ICASA on June 6, 2008 an amended license to broadcast Radio Power Source issued the following:

Frekwensieverandering from 96.0FM to 93.1FM Stereo Stereo.
Signal Strength (ERP) of 2 kW to 10 kW
