Cape Town, 06 February 2018: The sold out Heart Cape Town Music Festival is set to rock the Mother City on Saturday 10 February 2018 at the iconic Newlands Cricket Stadium. The 12-hour music festival will see more than 20 of South Africa’s top talent on stage.

In light of the drought that Cape Town is facing, the entire festival will be water wise and operate outside the municipal grid. This includes ablution facilities which will be brought in, instead of using the existing infrastructure at the stadium. Throughout the day patrons will be reminded that they need to be conscious of water usage. Heart FM is not only committed to leading by example as to being water conscious, but the festival is also running off bio friendly generators to reduce harm to the environment.

Hottest line-up
The line-up includes something for both young and the young at heart, celebrating the best South African and Cape Town talent.

While last season Idol’s winner Paxton Fielies agreed to perform at the festival, it was not in consultation with her newly appointed manager, who accepted an invitation to perform at another radio station concert which required exclusivity.

Festival director Denver Apollus explains. “We are not pleased with the outcome as we believe these new artists should be given the exposure across multiple platforms and not be exclusive. We should never let our brands dictate the segregation of our Cape Town artists. We are here to support and Heart FM will do so regardless. We support Paxton and look forward to our partnership with Robin Pieters’ show where she will be performing with him on 14th February 2018 at the GrandWest Arena.”

Artists taking to the stage: Jimmy Nevis, Youngsta CPT, Marc Alex, Prime Circle, Craig Lucas, AKA, Cassper Nyovest, Sketchy Bongo, Tresor, Dr Victor & The Rasta Rebels, Mango Groove, Die Heuwels Fantasies, Nasty C, Emo Adams, Sasha-Lee Davids, Alistair Izobell, Salome, Kurt Darren, Chad Saaiman, Jarrad Ricketts, Airborne, The Black Ties.

About Smile 90.4FM:

Smile 90.4FM is a South African private commercial radio station based in Cape Town in the Western Cape.

According to renowned film producer Singh and Messina, Smile 90.4fm will provide entertainment, information and inspiration to listeners in the Cape Metropolitan area. Smile will also be the first private commercial radio station in 14 years.

“Our purpose is to use the broadcast frequency we have been entrusted with to build audience and client relationships, bridge cultural divides, promote a sense of community, do good business and spread optimism while presenting the most entertaining, interesting and informative audio content which will manifest in the proverbial smile,” they said.

‘We are starting a movement’
According to programmes director Clive Ridgway, Smile 90.4fm will be launching as an audio brand and not as a radio station.

“Radio as we know it is at the media crossroads – facing the challenges of the internet, new media and social networks. Launching into a world dominated by new media requires something unique and special,” Ridgway explains.

Some of the radio presenters chosen for Smile are reportedly well-known across South Africa and “have been handpicked”, but will be announced at a later stage.

The language of the brand will be conversational Afrikaans and English and the Smile playlist will be a mix of adult contemporary and pop hits with local tunes making up 50% of the playlist, Ridgway added.

The station is aimed at the 25- to 49-year-old age group.

Singh and Messina concluded: “Our team has the required skills, passion and commitment to ensure the long-term viability and sustainability of the station. We are therefore not launching a product; we are starting a movement – a new wave on the air. The name says it all. Hear it … feel it … Smile 90.4fm.”

It claims to be Cape Town’s number one news and talk station, offering news, sport, business and actuality programming, with plenty of phone-in debates. It was established in 1997. The station is owned by Primedia.

History of 567 Cape Talk:

567 CapeTalk celebrated a decade of independent broadcasting in 2007. The station hit the airwaves at 06h00 on Tuesday, 14 October 1997. From the start it was positioned to provide an independent forum for the citizens of the Mother City, allowing them to swap ideas and voice opinions. The first home of 567 CapeTalk was in Bree Street and it was here that presenter John Maytham welcomed Cape Town to the station’s first broadcast. Former presenters include the former Sunday Times columnist Jani Allan between 1997-2000.
