<p>In September/October 1993 Radio Vaal broadcasted live from the Vaal show grounds for 3 weeks on a temporary broadcasting license. The purpose of this broadcast was to test the water to see how effective a radio station in the Vaal Triangle would be. The results are clear.Since October 1993 the brains behind the station worked on a continuous basis to secure a permanent radio station for the Vaal Triangle.A broadcasting license was granted in April 1995 and 90.6FM was born and subsequently started broadcasting on the 1st of August 1995.<span class="color_11">We are a community radio station which sells advertising to sustain itself and all profits are ploughed back into the community via charities.</span><span class="color_11">90.6FM is controlled by a board of directors, elected from their members.  Members are people representing institutions in the Vaal Triangle with the community at heart. We service all major towns in the Vaal Triangle with a radius from Vereeniging +- 65km.</span></p>
<p><span class="color_11">&#8220;Our active listeners are currently estimated at +- 241 000 (independent survey done by The North West University).Towns included are:Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark, Sasolburg, Meyerton, Southern parts of Alberton, Deneysville and surrounding areas.&#8221;</span></p>

<p>Naledi Community Radio was formed in June 1997 an initiative by local community volunteers who felt that local people wanted to hear programming that would help them develop self-empowerment skills; fund jobs; improve knowledge; inform about local government administration and services (basic services such as housing and infrastructure); and to entertain them with local music. In May 1999, the station obtaining a four-years Community Broadcasting License from ICASA. Then Minister of Communications Dr. Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, in the presence of Premier of the Free State, Me Winkie Direko, officially opened this project on 28 January 2000 at Botshabelo.</p>
<p>Regular programme content includes: talk shows; sports; interviews; dedications; competitions; religion; children’s programme; women’s programme featuring different topical issues; music; biographies; competitions; youth afternoon drive-show; current affairs; traditional content; and discussions. The station reaches Senekal/Matwabeng; Marquad/Moemaneng; Hlohlolwane/Clocolan; Rosendal/Mautse; Paul Roux/Fateng-tse-ntsho; Arlington/Leratswana; Steynsrus/Matlwang-tlwang; Lindley/Ntha; Ventersburg/Mamahabane; Virginia/Meloding; Henneman/Phomolong; Winburg/Makeleketla; Excelsior/Mahlatswetsa; and Petrus Steyn/Mamafubedu. This also includes over 200 farms surrounding these towns. Languages used at the station reflect the population of this area; this includes 74% in Sesotho; 15% in English; and 11% in Afrikaans. Motheo FM started broadcasting on the 10th of April 2009. It broadcast in Sesotho, Setswana, English and Xhosa, 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Motheo FM boast a team of DJ&#8217;s and Presenters who are talented and dedicated in their work.</p>

</strong>Our mandate in terms of broadcasting can be briefly described as talk, music, giving news and information concentrating mainly on the local content within Motheo District Municipality.</p>

<p><b>Kovsie FM 97.0</b> is a campus/community radio station in Bloemfontein, South Africa. The station is located on the grounds of the University of the Free State and broadcasts to a radius of about 80 km.</p>
<p>Kovsie FM was founded in 1978 by a group of students, and broadcast only inside the cafeteria. In 1995 it was granted a license by the IBA, now called ICASA (Independent Communications Authority of South Africa) granting Kovsie FM a broadcasting license on the frequency 97.0 FM.</p>
<p>Kovsie FM 97.0 broadcasts in English, Afrikaans and Sotho, and their focus is on the youth between the ages of 15-35. Their mission includes community involvement, training and development, being a platform for local musicians, providing an accurate, unbiased news service, and sustainability.</p>
<p>The station employs 3 full-time personnel, including a station manager, programming manager and an admin/marketing manager.</p>
